I'm away for the winter. Set Thermostats at 42 for the winter. Suddenly, about a month after leaving I see that my heat has been set at 72 for 3 days costing $75.00 in unnecessary natural gas consumption. I turned my 3 thermostats off fearing a repeat. I contacted Nest to reaffirm my refusal to have them tamper with my thermostats. Many months ago I had denied using Nest Renew but it, or some other Nest program, took control of my thermostat.
Do I have any recourse to get Nest to pay for the unwanted heating? Will locking my 3 Nest thermostats keep them from changing my settings??

Hello Don309,
I'm sorry to hear about the unexpected increase in your heating costs and the inconvenience caused by your Nest Thermostats. It seems like a significant issue, and I understand your concern.
Firstly, locking your Nest Thermostats is a good step to prevent further unauthorized changes. This can usually be done through the Nest app or on the thermostat itself. However, keep in mind that locking them might also prevent you from adjusting the settings remotely.
As for recourse, can you share with us your support ID number from your previous contact with our team so I can check for options available for you? Also, double-check your Nest account settings to ensure that there are no authorized users who might have made changes to the thermostat settings. Change your password if necessary to enhance security and remove any members if needed.
Keep me posted.
Regards,
Mark

I'm having a similar problem, repeatedly. My system keeps turning itself up to 78 degrees. We don't know how to stop this. I'm thinking of asking Nest to refund my money and send this piece of junk back to them.
