Nest Thermostat Installation/Startup

I had the Nest thermostat installed by licensed electricians in a newly built house. The house does not have wifi yet. How do I get the thermostat to work “manually?”

The thermostat must be setup and connected to a Wifi network with an internet connection at least initially. Once setup, it can lose its network and you can control it manually from the thermostat.

A workaround here would be to use a Wifi hotspot on a phone or tablet. Note you will need 2 devices to set this up.

  • Turn on the Wifi hotspot feature on a phone or tablet. If you're not sure how to do this, refer to the manufacturer's support website.
  • Connect a second phone or tablet to that Wifi hotspot.
  • You can then use that second phone or tablet to setup your thermostat and connect it to the Wifi hotspot on the first phone or tablet.
