I recently installed a home battery backup solution. I wanted to see if the Nest Thermostat can automatically shut off AC/Heat from my unit when I am on battery backup.

Hi JCR724,
Thanks for reaching out to the community. I understand you want to know if the Nest thermostat can automatically shut off the AC/Heat from your unit when the battery backup is working. I’d be happy to help you!
Just to inform you, the Nest thermostats control your HVAC system by completing a circuit with the HVAC control board, which connects to the HVAC equipment. The Nest thermostat operates on a 24-volt circuit. This circuit typically starts at 24 volts and is boosted to 240 volts via a capacitor to provide sufficient power for system startup and operation. This means that if the 24v AC power is lost and the battery is powering the thermostat, the thermostat can still send signals, but the HVAC equipment may not run. Currently, Nest thermostats don’t have a feature to automatically disable these functions when power is lost and the battery backup takes over.
To implement this feature in the Nest thermostats, I would really appreciate it if you could fill out this feedback form. Your opinion is valuable to us as we strive to enhance Nest thermostat services.
