Nest app push notifications delayed only on desktop any fixes?

I’ve experienced this on Windows too, and it does seem more common on desktop than on mobile. Windows can delay push notifications due to background app limits, Focus Assist, or power and battery optimization settings. Browsers and desktop apps may also throttle activity when they’re not in active use. The Nest app appears to rely more on background syncing on Windows, which can introduce lag. Checking notification permissions, allowing background activity, and disabling power-saving features for the app (https://getthespikeapk.com/) or browser can help. Keeping the browser updated and avoiding tab suspension extensions may also reduce delays.

Hello @marios9986,

Thank you for reaching out to the community! I can understand how inconvenient it is to have your Nest notifications arrive instantly on your mobile device while experiencing a lag on your desktop. Since you’re getting them on your phone, we know the cameras and servers are working correctly, and the bottleneck is definitely within how Windows or your browser is handling background tasks.

You’ve already identified some great culprits like background syncing and power settings. Here are a few specific ways to tighten up those desktop notifications:

1. Adjust Browser-Specific Throttling (Chrome/Edge)

Modern browsers "discard" or "hibernate" tabs that haven't been clicked on to save RAM. If your Nest tab is hibernating, it won't push the notification until you wake it up.

  • Chrome: Go to chrome://settings/performance and add home.nest.com (or home.google.com) to the "Always keep these sites active" list.
  • Edge: Go to Settings > System and Performance and disable "Save resources with sleeping tabs." Also, add the Nest URL to the "Never put these sites to sleep" list.

2. Check Windows "Focus Assist" (Do Not Disturb).

Windows often batches notifications or silences them entirely if it thinks you are busy.

  • Go to Settings > System > Notifications.
  • Ensure Do Not Disturb is turned OFF.
  • Click on Set priority notifications and add your browser (Chrome/Edge) to the allowed list so it can bypass any background restrictions.

3. Network Adapter "Power Management"

Sometimes Windows puts your network card into a low-power state when the mouse hasn't moved, which delays the incoming "ping" from Nest.

  • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Network adapters, right-click your active adapter, and select Properties.
  • Under the Power Management tab, uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

I would recommend trying the Performance settings (Step 1) first, as "tab sleeping" is the most common reason for desktop-only delays.

Regards,

Kevin
