I have had dropcam cameras for over 5 years cost me over 3oo hundred dollars, now google decides to eliminate them and I'm out big money. I deserve new cameras from Google. Who are they to just decide that as of April no more service allowed unless you get there cameras. I should have recieved 3 new cameras just on there records of which they know I have 3.

Please help me recover my new cameras.

Thanks

In April 2023, Google Nest announced it was discontinuing support for its Dropcams in April 2024 (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/An-update-for-our-Nest-Secure-Dropcam-and-Works-with-Nes...).

I'm just another Google Nest customer, but I think Google Nest emailed all Dropcam customers with a replacement offer:

"If you are a current Nest Aware subscriber, we will be offering you a Nest Cam (indoor, wired) on us to help you keep your home secure. If you are not a Nest Aware subscriber, we're offering a 50% discount toward a new Nest Cam (indoor, wired). Nest Cam is part of our next generation of cameras with more helpful features like HDR and built-in intelligence. We hope you will continue to trust us to help you at home. Please note, your Nest Aware subscription will not be automatically canceled. It will continue to work with any other Nest Cameras in your home. We will contact eligible Nest Dropcam users with instructions on how to redeem this offer."

I think the offer applied to up to 2 customers per customer, but I'm not sure.

On April 2, 2024, they posted this:

"About a year ago we announced that support for Dropcam, Dropcam Pro, and Nest Secure will end on April 8, 2024. Since then, we’ve reached out to impacted users through a series of email communications and in-app messages to help prepare for this transition, and to provide special offers based on eligibility. Below is a quick recap of information to ensure you are prepared for the changes coming next week....

Eligible Dropcam and Dropcam Pro users were emailed an offer towards a Nest Cam (indoor, wired). Nest Cam is part of our next generation of cameras with more helpful features like HDR and built-in intelligence. The offer can be redeemed until May 7th, 2024."

You could try contacting Support for more information:

1. Go to https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp.
2. Select a category/product family, and type in a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
3. Click "Other", then click "Next step".
4. Under "Resources", just click "Next step". (Clicking one of the listed links will bring up a Help page page.)
5. Under "Contact options", choose to get a phone call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.

I get where you are coming from, but if you own a vehicle and they discontinue it, do you deserve a new vehicle because the one you bought is no longer made or the parts are no longer available? As to your statement, which I assume was meant as a question, "Who are they to just decide that as of April no more service allowed unless you get there cameras." They are the owner of the device, they hold the copyright. So they have every right to decide. What happens is they were building a brand from themselves and they used the technology to better the Google Nest product and no longer need the Dropcam. It happens. Google doesn't owe you anything. It is business, it is life. This information has been on the web for over a year, they announced in 2023, https://www.theverge.com/2023/4/7/23673165/google-nest-dropcam-nest-secure-eol.

Furthermore, a simple internet search and even AI will tell you that in 2015 Google purchased the company and stated they would restructure the brand, see statement below.

Dropcam, Inc. was acquired by Nest Labs, a subsidiary of Google Inc., on June 20, 2014, for $555 million. At the time of the acquisition, Dropcam was a San Francisco-based company founded in January 2009 by Greg Duffy and Aamir Virani.

Post-Acquisition

After the acquisition, Nest rebranded Dropcam's products as Nest Cameras, integrating them with other Nest products. In June 2015, Nest announced the Nest Cam, replacing the Dropcam brand.

Parent Company Changes

In August 2015, Google restructured its subsidiaries, and Nest became a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., Google’s parent company. As a result, Dropcam, now rebranded as Nest Cameras, became a part of Alphabet Inc.

At the end of the day, Google is a company and can do as they wish, you are not entitled to something because they changed a product.
