Bought a Nest thermostat for my mom. Previously she had an Amazon one that was fairly new that somehow went bad. HVAC is heat and AC. It is a forced-air system with a compressor outside. Pretty common. Model Trane X8.
She has four wires: red, white, green, and blue. We connected the red to the Rc port, the white to W1, the green to G, and the blue to Y1. On the Amazon thermostat the green wire was connected to the C port and the blue to the K port. Red wire and white were the same as the Nest.
The heat works (hot air, fan, etc.) but the AC does not. The Nest lights up that blue color saying it is cooling, but the AC never turns on. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with a tech person from Google who walked me through several troubleshooting steps to no avail (reset, wire changes, etc.). There was a post I read on one of the Nest discussion boards about having to tell the Nest through the app settings that the blue wire was connected to the Y1, but I am not seeing how to do that on the app. Not sure what to do here. 90 degrees outside and 85 inside! Sizzler! Any help would be appreciated.

What model Nest is it?
Are you using a common wire for power?

We hired an HVAC tech. Appears the wires were chewed through in the attic. Replaced the wires and all is working.

I’m glad to hear that the issue was resolved by hiring an HVAC tech and replacing the chewed-through wires! It’s essential to have a professional assess and fix such issues. For future reference, consider checking the thermostat wiring and ensuring proper connections to prevent similar problems. Stay comfortable!
