Google Home will not turn lights on or off

Google home and Google mini both suddenly quit allowing me to control the Philips hue lights in our home.  My husband is still able to control the lights as usual.

I re-downloaded the apps on my iPad and I am now able to change the colour of the lights but still not able to turn the lights on or off using Google home or mini. I am able to turn the lights on and off using the Philips hue app.

Any suggestions?

Having same issue with our C by GE lights. Magically all the lights are now unavailable?

Hopefully someone has a solution for us

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know about your concerns about controlling your lights. We'll work together to identify the cause of the problem and find a solution. A few questions: when did it begin? Were there any recent changes made? What response are you getting from your speakers when you control the lights via voice? Are you getting the same result when you try your phone’s Google Assistant?

Try to refresh your devices and observe if it makes a difference. First, reboot your Wi-Fi router, and once the network is back up, do the same thing to your Google Nest speakers and lights.

Regards,

Juni

Hello,

This started randomly with no changes in our home. It is also sporadic. It will work, then it will not. Google will tell us that the items are "unavailable" the home app will say they was an issue. All lights can be seen, the app will show if they are on or off, but will not respond to the commands. We have tried resetting all items, our router, etc. No changes. We will go to bed and they will be unavailable, then when we wake up Google is able to turn them on via voice commands again. Any advice @Juni ?

Hey LauraG24,

Thanks for the details you’ve shared. You can relink the lights and check if you will get a different experience. You can also check out this helpful link for more troubleshooting steps.

Hello,

Thank you. We have done all recommended steps with the bulbs themselves. As I stated previously, this appears to be a communication error as it comes and goes. One moment it works, the next it does not. Google states they are unavailable and the Home app states there was an error. Then magically they work again. All lights in the home, not just a specific set. We have six lamps, with 6 bulbs.

Hi there,

Thanks for the details you’ve shared. You can reinstall the Google Home app and observe if it makes a difference. Using another phone can also help us further isolate this. You can try the factory reset; this erases all your personalized settings and restores the factory default settings. It won’t automatically reconnect to WI-Fi, and you’ll need to set it up again. Check out the article below to know more about it.

Factory reset Google Nest or Home speakers or displays
