Nest thermostat not heating past certain temp

Our nest thermostat isn’t heating past 71. I have it set to 75 and it just never heats past 71. It drops to 68 during the night and is freezing when we come downstairs in the morning. I have all automated temps set to off along w the eco setting. I’ve schedule temps overnight to be 75 by 6am so it’s warm but it’s just not working.

Hello Jennabarchi,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your Nest Thermostat not heating past 71 degrees, especially during the night. It can be quite uncomfortable to wake up in a chilly home. Let's troubleshoot a few potential issues and see if we can find a solution:

  1. Confirm that the temperature sensor on your thermostat is working correctly. Dust or debris can sometimes affect its accuracy. Gently clean the sensor with a soft cloth.
  2. Double-check the settings on your thermostat. Ensure that the heating mode is selected and that there are no conflicting settings. It's good that you've turned off automated temperatures and eco settings, but verifying them again might be helpful.
  3. Confirm that your schedule settings are configured correctly. Sometimes, a programming issue might be causing the thermostat not to reach the desired temperature.
  4. Try restarting your thermostat. You can do this by going to the thermostat settings and selecting "Restart." This can sometimes resolve minor glitches.

If, after going through these steps, the issue persists, tell us more about them so we can check for more options:

  • Is the Nest Thermostat newly installed?
  • What type of furnace do you have? (gas, electric, etc.)
  • Does the furnace activate while the fan doesn’t?
  • When was the last time you changed the furnace's air filter?
  • Have you experienced extremely cold weather lately? Is this the first notable temperature drop of the year in the area?
  • Does it have a common wire?
  • Gather the power readouts in the Technical Info or in the Equipment settings.

Keep us posted.

Best regards,
Mark
