Why, as part of the new policy I am being asked to accept, is control of my devices required?

Hi J_McNeil,
Thank you for posting in this community! I understand you're curious about why the new policy asks for permission to access your devices, and that's an important question. At Google Nest, your privacy and security are incredibly important to us. This new policy is all about enhancing the security and performance of your Nest devices and the services they connect to.
To keep your Nest devices running at their best, we sometimes need to update their software. This helps them stay secure against new threats and ensures they continue to operate smoothly. These permissions also allow us to make sure all your Nest features, like viewing your camera remotely or adjusting your thermostat on the go, work perfectly with our services. It's all about providing you with a consistent and high-quality experience.
Just to clarify, these permissions aren't about accessing your personal content - things like your video feeds or specific temperature settings. Instead, our entire focus is on the operational health and security of your Nest devices themselves.
Our aim at Google Nest is to continuously improve your Nest experience, keeping your products safe, secure, and performing optimally.
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Regards,
Humberto
