No longer able to set light color with new automation UI

Ever since the new Home UI came out, you can no longer set a light colour as an action.

On/off and brightness are the only options, so unless I use the script editor, it doesn't give the option to set a light colour based on an input, routine, or automation

In your Android phone Google search for "Assistant Routines" to use the alternative and original Household and Personal Automations.

Then what's the purpose of the new automation creator. There are things you can do in the new one you couldn't do in the old, and the old ones failed so often that this was supposed to replace and fix it.

Is this the continued en**bleep**tification of Google Home to make us pay extra?

The "new" Google Home app is called "Early Access" and we were made aware of it's limitations before signing up to this beta type testing.

It will improve over time, but at least there is an option we can use. I prefer to use the old way, but I'm very excited for those conditions in the new app.

I haven’t got a clue. Mine just updated. No idea I signed up to anything 😂

Yeah, this was rolled out to all users, there are still server changes happening in the background for Gemini, but this seems to be fully out and no longer early access.

I’ve found you have to choose it on the actual light. Not as an automation. Which is annoying as you cant have a certain light temperature for a certain time of the day. You can only set the light colour and it stays the same.
all my automations have deleted and when trying to set them all up again it’s unable to save them so now I’m having to do everything manually until I work out how to do it all again. Really annoying.

My 'wiz' lights aren't responding properly anymore to the previous automations, and when I create a new one, I can't set the color.  What the hell, Google?

Now I have a whole bunch of nest products that aren't gonna do me any good for lighting automations, do I have to switch to Alexa now? How is this an upgrade when you change your software, but it doesn't work with all the existing products I bought that are supposed to be fully google compatible?

not a rhetorical question, how do I get support on this issue and actually get some movement towards fixing your product?

@Earthman if you are now using the Early Access Google Home you need to search for "Open Assistant Routines" to use Personal/Household Automations.

As reminded above, this is no longer an early access issue. This version has been rolled out to all users and the option for light colour is no longer a part of the default processes, hence the request. This is a default item for a lot of smart devices that has simply been cut out. If an app has rolled out to all users, at no point should we be forced to track down workarounds that are not clearly stated.

@Logicus I wasn't replying to you as indicated by the tag of @Earthman

Assistant Routines instead of Automations could be an option to finding a solution. My lights from Tuya and LIFX still show colour options.

It's worth a look.

I have no idea what you are referring to. There is no option in my home app for "Assistant routines"

it has 'home' 'activity' and 'automations' in the main menu. Nothing by that name in the profile menu either.

Did you see that I mentioned I am NOT opted in for early adoption?

OK, I see now you're referring to a different app, I installed the Assistant app and I see the option for routines, it has my automations in there, however, they still don't work with my lights. It stopped recently assigning the colours properly and there's nothing I can do to fix it,

I can try recreating them all from scratch, but creating routines/automations in these apps has the worst UX I've ever seen. And the new app that you're talking about has the exact same horrible interface that the home app had.

I thought Google had been in the business long enough to be able to build a proper app, heck they even provide UX certifications, but I would hesitate to get one of those based on the UX that I see in the majority of Google products.

.You can't even duplicate an existing routine you always have to start from scratch and you can't even assign groups in a single choice. You have to select every single bulb every single time. It's painstakingly annoying.

As an app developer myself, I would be ashamed to put my name on that product. But I guess Google being a faceless corporation doesn't have that problem apparently.

Ok rant over.

Have you tried Reconnecting the Wiz app to Google Home? (Settings page> Works with Google)

Does the Wiz app have the ability to choose colour in its scenes/automations?

Can you ask Google in an automation to set the bulb to say red?

  • For the choice of multiple devices: lights are easy... "turn on lights in Lounge Room"
  • For everything in one room..."turn on Lounge Room"

Google did have a copy feature where the automation actions were transferred to create a new automation with a different trigger, but that disappeared recently; probably due to the changeover between the old Google Home app and new.

I am not signed up for early access.

This is a product gap in my standard application.

When can we expect an update to restore functionality please?

This is complete trash now.  Beyond ridiculous that someone actually thought this was an improvement.  Also, why can members in the same household NOT see anything created by other members? How is this even passable? @google you need to start answering questions.
