Today Google announced that starting in October they will no longer "support" Gen 1 or Gen 2 Nest thermostats by taking away the only functionality the a Nest devise has to offer (access through the app). The only reason I got the Nest was for access through the app. I'm looking for a non-Google thermostat that will work through an app or through a web interface. I prefer a company that will support their product for the products life. Any suggestions?
I realize that making a thermostat (on / off switch) work remotely is hard but Google is one of the highest valued companies on the planet they should be able to figure it out without having beg for more money.

I just received the notification. When I bought my Nest in 2014, I had no idea it would be effectively disabled at any time in the future. It was very expensive and I expected it would last way longer than 10y. Just as dumb thermostats previously lasted decades. I don’t care about it not getting further FW updates, I get that. But to lose the remote app control is utterly despicable. That was the only reason I bought it for! Unless this policy is changed I will vow to never ever buy another Google product as long as I live. I am utterly gobsmacked at this announcement. Peter R.
