No option for Home and Away Routine

I am trying to set up a Home and Away Routine in the Home app but there is not an option that shows up in my automations.  I had other household routines set up which were working exactly as they should.  Here are the things I tried based on other posts about this same issue:

- I’ve deleted all household routines, closed out of the app and reopened (did not work), then restarted phone. Still didn't work.

- Uninstalling and reinstalling Google Home app. Didn't work.

Nothing has worked.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem. no home or away routine. Presence sensing puts the home in home or away mode, but I cant edit the automation. I tried to make a new automation called "home" and it says i cant cause the name needs to be unique. so obviously there is one but its hidden?? If i make another household routine there is no option for presence sensing to be the trigger either.

Hi Ang.

I did find a work around. I logged into google home through a Web browser and used the new chatgtp style script creator to make a script for me. And it worked!

Thank you for the reply! I opened google Home in a web browser but seeing as though I'm not extremely computer savy, can you walk me through the steps you took?

Thanks again!

Sure. here are the steps.

1. I used a web browser to go to home.google.com and logged in to my account.

2. On the left hand side is a simple menu with cameras and automation's. I clicked on automation's.

3. Down the bottom right of the screen is "add new" click this.

4. you should now be at the new script editor. unfortunately i cant attach a screenshot here if i can.

5. on the right hand side you can add a prompt like "turn of all my lights when the house enters away mode" its an AI based script prompt and will turn this into code on the left of the screen.

6. Good luck!

I am having the same problem for our primary location (with iPhone) following migration from Nest app to Google Home due to the Dropcam's becoming obsolete. I tried the web brower view over the weekend but couldn't introduce the presence sensing due to having an iPhone. Interestingly our secondary location shows the home & away routines on the automation tab.

This seems to be a broad issue impacting lots of people, so hopefully Google will resolve this sooner than later...

Same problem here. Will try the web app now... but really, they should fix this so the workaround isn't needed

Web script editor has the same problem (cannot create 'Home' automation)... I guess I could try with another name, but that would still be a workaround

By the grace of the universe, I finally got it to work. My wife was already a manager/member of my home. So, tried to set up presence sensing with her phone (iPhone, I have an Android). After setting that up... it works... the automations/routines were finally visible in her app. When I checked mine, they showed up as well.

So... may not work for everyone, but try set up presence sensing (can remove later) for all members of your home
