Philips Hue and Nest Mini

Reist

Hi everyone!

I feel like it has been discussed a few times but it still seems like there's no definite solution to this.

I own a Pixel 6, a Nest Mini and a Philips Hue Go. I'm able to control the light via the Hue app. The Nest works well with my phone too. The problem is that I can't add the Hue Go to the Home app. Any ideas? Updating & resetting everything didn't help much.

I was told by the Philips support team that there's a bug in Google Home that prevents Hue lamps from Bluetooth-pairing with Nest Mini. Could somebody please confirm this?

It's advertised by Philips that Hue Go supports Google Home.

Hey Reist,

We're sorry for the delayed response.

Thanks for providing those details. Did you receive any updates from Philips Hue support? If you still have trouble connecting your lights to your Nest Mini, give these additional steps a try:

  1. Make sure your Philips Hue lights software is updated.
  2. Try resetting your lights.
  3. Once done, try setting it up again using these steps:
  • Plug in the Bluetooth-enabled light in the same room as the Google Nest or Home speaker or display, then turn it on.
  • Open the Google Home appGoogle Home app.
  • At the top-left, tap Add   Set up device  New device.
  • The Bluetooth-enabled light appears as an option in the Google Home app.
  • Select the bulb from the app. The physical bulb blinks when selected.
  • Choose a room for the bulb.
  • Type in the desired name for the bulb.
  • The bulb may blink a few times. When the Google Home app says that the light is ready, tap Done.

Best,

Alex

Hi Reist,

Thanks for reaching out and for providing detailed information on your issue and the steps that you've done — these are of great help!

A few things: is this the first time that you are linking your Philips Hue lights? What is the exact message that you are getting from your Google Home app during the linking process? You can try to use another phone then observe if this will make any difference. Also, could you confirm if this is how you are linking your Philip light to your Google Home app?

  1. Set up your speaker or smart display, if you haven’t already done so.
  2. Plug in and turn on your Bluetooth-enabled light in the same room as your speaker or smart display.
  3. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  4. At the top left, tap Add Set up device plus New device .
  5. Select the light bulb that you’d like to set up. Your bulb will blink when selected.
  6. Where is this device? Choose what room your bulb is in.
    • To create a custom room, tap Add custom room and then type in room name and then tap Next.
  7. Create a unique name. Type in the desired name for your bulb that you'll use for voice commands. It's recommended that you use a contextual name like 'reading light' or 'overhead light'. For best results, don’t include the room name in the light’s name (it knows which room it’s in).
  8. Setting up your smart light. Your bulb may blink a few times.
  9. Your light is ready. Tap Done.
  10. Setup is successful. You can now control your lights with your Google Nest or Home speaker or display.

Looking forward to your responses.

Thanks,

Hi Juni,

Thanks for the reply.  Nothing worked. I contracted Philips support team. I expect an email from them anytime soon.

> A few things: is this the first time that you are linking your Philips Hue lights?

This is the first time I want to connect Philips Hue to my  Google Home setup via Bluetooth. I used to have a Hue Bridge and it worked flawlessly.

> What is the exact message that you are getting from your Google Home app during the linking process?

My Hue Go just won't get discovered by Google Home.  I'm just getting "What are you setting up?" screen.

> You can try to use another phone then observe if this will make any difference.

Unfortunately, I don't have any other phones. And don't think my phone is the problem. I can connect Hue Go to my phone via Bluetooth directly and, with this setup, I am able to control the light.

> Also, could you confirm if this is how you are linking your Philip light to your Google Home app?

Yes. Those are exact steps. I can't get past 5.

Azarco,

Thanks for reaching out. Resetting Hue Go via the Hue app did the trick! It seems that resetting by holding the button on the back of the light is different.
