Turn lights on with presence sensing BUT ONLY after sunset

[Don't think the "Label" is correct]

I have a light set to turn on when returning home using Presence Sensing and this works well.

However this does this at any time of the day so my question i this - is there a way to add the conditon of "At/after sunset" so the light only turns once dark and not if i'm just coming home from the shops at midday?

Hi Colin_T,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I appreciate you letting us know that you have a light set to turn on when returning home using “Presence Sensing,” but the light turns on any time of the day, so you need to know if there is a way to add the condition of "At/after sunset" so the light only turns on once dark. It is my pleasure to assist you with this concern.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • What is the make and model of your light?
  • What device are you using to control the light?
  • Are you using Script Editor or the Google Home app to set up your automations?
  • If you are using the Script Editor, are you accessing it with the Google Home for web or with the mobile Google Home app?

Thanks for your kind attention; I will be looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Virna

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

Lights are Philips Hue connected via the Hue Bridge. They are set up to respond to voice commands via Google speakers around the house, and also via the Google Home app on Android Phones (Pixel 7 Pro is one).

I have the lights turning on using the Automations tab - Household, Home, When someone comes home (use presence sensing). Just surprised that there is no Sunset/Sunrise option given here - I expected that to  be a basic feature .

I have just used your link to the script editor and used the AI function to generate a script. Shall see if it works !

Thank you

Colin
