Turn off home and away

Gwyt

Hi,

How do I turn off the home and away automation? I only use “I’m leaving” and “I’m back”, but it keeps triggering an annoying question every time (“do you want to set your home to home” and “do you want to set your home to away”). What’s the point of this question? If I’m leaving, then I’m away. It also doesn’t shut up and keeps asking the same question until I answer. Please help, it’s making the automation features virtually useless for me.

I can’t find an option to turn off the home and away automation, it’s driving me insane.

Hi Gwyt,

Thanks for reaching out to Community. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having difficulty with Home & Away Routines and for the delayed response here. I’d be happy to help you with this.

Home & Away Routines can't be paused or deleted, but you can disable them in other ways.

  • Disable presence sensing. If you disable presence sensing, Home & Away Routines actions will still be available, but won't start automatically.
  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Settings and then Presence sensing.
  3. Turn off Allow this home to use phone locations and then Turn off.
  4. Turn off all other devices you selected to help start Home & Away Routines.

Note: Home members will still be able to start Home & Away Routines with the Google Home app or with a voice command (US English only).

  • Remove all device actions from Home & Away Routines. If you remove all device actions, Home & Away Routines won't be able to adjust anything in your home.

You can find more information here on how to change Home & Away Routines settings.

Best,

Lance

This “feature” needs to be switched off. It doesn’t help at all, especially if you live alone - is everyone one away? Well yes, but I just told you that when I said “I’m leaving”!
There is only one person assigned to my household (i.e. me) clearly we have stupid devices that can’t work out what that means.

My devices don’t even say bye to me any more - another terrible update I guess, it was nice to have “someone” say bye to me by name when I leave for work or go to bed.

Right now there are thoughts of Alexa being taken out of her box again.

I've turned off presence sensing, the away and home routines still run. Especially at random, I was just sitting here playing a game on my pc and all the lights turned off and Google said it was running the away routine.

I’m having this same issue. I’ve effectively lost all control of the away routine, and it just happens randomly whenever sometime in the afternoon. Why is this happening all of a sudden? About to disconnect all my Google devices and move on.
