“Unable to put the device into your home” – Sony Bravia TV

m00npatrol

Trying to connect a Sony Bravia A80J TV to my Google Home app on iOS. I have a lot of successfully connected devices already in multiple rooms. The TV is found by the app and I can even control it on my phone via the remote. But I cannot add it to any room – gives error “Unable to put the device into your home” every time. Please advise how to overcome.

Hey m00npatrol,

That certainly hasn’t been easy for you, let’s check what’s going on.

A few questions: how many devices do you have? Also, aside from your Sony Bravia TV, do you have any speakers or displays that are also showing on your Google Home app?

Give these steps a try:

  • Make sure your devices are connected to the same network and within 15-20 feet of your router.
  • Uninstall and reinstall your Google Home app.
  • Reboot your TV, phone and router to refresh the connection.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Alex

Hey m00npatrol,

Checking back in — did the suggested steps above help?

Thanks for the assistance but I still can’t add the TV to any room after following your steps.

In answer to your previous question, I have 20 devices successfully connected to Google Home. Including an older TV in another room connected via Chromecast.

Oh and yes I have a Google Max speaker, Google Nest Hub, and Sonos speaker all successfully connected.

Hey m00npatrol,

Thanks for trying those steps. Since it's only happening with your Sony Bravia TV, we highly suggest to contact your TV manufacturer for assistance.

Seeing that the device can be recognised by Google Home, and the remote control works perfectly via Google Home, it seems unlikely to me that Sony will be able to assist. It's Google Home's "Add to a Room" functionality that appears to be the issue here.

Hey m00npatrol,

We understand. Could you try removing your Sony Bravia TV from the Google Home app and add it again. Also, try using a different phone to see if that helps.

Thanks,
Alex

There is no actual way that I can see to remove the Sony TV from the Google Home app. It doesn't have that option like other devices do. Also I tried leaving the Home instance and then starting again but that's caused even more problems. Now previous Google branded devices are telling me to request access to add them back in, but those requests don't work.

Hey m00npatrol,

We understand how important this is for you. Even if you use the Google Home app for your TV, we don't have access to the settings of your TV. If possible, try resetting your TV to its default settings to see if you'll get the same result.

Best,

Alex
