Wake up on motion detection

geolos69

Hi,

I have a google nest hub. I think that one major limitation of the device is the absence of waking up functionality of the display on motion detection. Currently it is possible to sleep the device after 5 minutes on inactivity but it cannot wake up unless if you speak.

I do not like to have my display constantly on as it will for sure burn after a while, hence I use the sleep functionality. It is really annoying to have to talk each time so that the display turns on, when there is a motion sensor that can be programmed to offer this as an option (ie. wake up on motion detection)

In addition, the sleep functionality does not work correctly. For instance, if I ask Google Nest Hub to play a TuneIn radio station after 5 minutes it correctly sleeps (the display goes off) & the music continuous. Though, if I ask to cast a web-page, the device does not turn off after 5 minutes.

Hi geolos69,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

I totally understand that motion detection is a good feature to use with your Nest Hub, but this isn’t available. I'd suggest you submit feedback about it, here's how

For the sleep feature which web page are you trying to cast?  Were you able to do this feature before?

Keep me posted.

Juni

Hi Juni,

I have reported my initial suggestion on the page that you advised. I hope that an RfC will be opened for that.

As for the casting, is there any relevance of the content of the web-page for the sleep functionality to work? FYI: I have just bought it and I have it a few days.

Hi geolos69,

Thanks for submitting the feedback, every bit of feedback helps a ton. For the turn off screen after 5 minutes feature that is now working if your Nest Hub has a web page on it’s screen, the normal behavior, is it should go back if you have photo frame feature enabled, then after 5 minutes it should turn off the screen. Is this what’s happening on your end too?

Looking forward to your response.

Regards,

Juni

Hi, I do not understand the response back after more than a month…but ok 🙂

My initial suggestion was to consider providing a wake-up feature since the device has a motion sensor.

Other than that I have opened a ticket where Juni suggested, in case someone will review it.
