Wake-up routine not starting or completing

ScottInPDX

Hi all,

I'm trying to figure this out, and hope she if you might have dealt with this already:

I'm using the beta Home app to set up an automation to wake up the house. Here's the basic stuff:

- 2 triggers: when I say, "Wake up," or 6am on weekdays.

- the routine is set to start on a smart speaker in my bedroom.

- it turns on some Hue lights around the house.

- then it tells me the weather and starts streaming a radio station.

When I use the verbal prompt, it works perfectly. But the 6am trigger only happens about 25% of the time. Sometimes the routine doesn't complete (lights turn on, but no audio) and that's frustrating too.

So what I'm wondering is how to fix this. I've completely deleted the routine and refreshed it from scratch, but I'm getting exactly the same result. I'd like to have a dependable alarm, but it keeps failing. How do I troubleshoot this? What other options should I try?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi ScottInPDX,

That's not exactly the experience we want you to have and we're here to help. A few questions: what Nest speakers triggers the alarm? When did this issue start? Since recreating the routine didn't resolve it, it would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers and other devices linked to your Google Home app. Plug them back in after 3 minutes. Restarting your phone might also help.

Tell us how it goes.

Thanks.

The speaker is a Lenovo smart display/speaker, and I've tried moving the routine to a Nest mini speaker and another speaker from Best Buy and gotten exactly the same behavior. My WiFi network is pretty solid, and there are plenty of things that never see interruptions in connectivity - like my Nest doorbell, a Nest Hub, a few other smart speakers, etc.

I've tried a lot of local possibilities, and none of them have made any difference. I'm wondering what might be going on from Google's side. How can I get any diagnostics or logging?

I'm happy to provide info to help troubleshoot, and it's like this to work.

Thanks for playing along!

Hi ScottInPDX,

I understand. Could you help me check the activity on your Google Home app if it followed the routine that you did. Go to this link and see if the wake up routine appears. Also, create another routine for us to compare, either the ready-made routines or the customer routines.

Looking forward to your responses.

Best,

Dan
