Zoom and enhance on Google Home

I’m in the process of looking to migrate to Google Home.
From what I see it appears the zoom & enhance is currently not available in Google Home.

Can anyone from Google? Please explain why this function is taken away since you have the code to do it.

Did you decide that us as customers no longer need this?

I’ve been using Zoom. And enhance on all of my cameras for about 10 years and it is invaluable in using cam for yard security.

Do you have the new Gemini features in Home yet? That got turned on for me a few days ago, and may be why it works for me and not you.

Hi TBCuthbert,

Thanks for reaching out. When you’re watching Google Nest camera or doorbell video with the Google Home app. See the steps below on how to do it:

  1. Open the Home app.
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. In your camera’s Live or History view, you can:
    • Spread or pinch two fingers to zoom in or out.
    • Double-tap to zoom in. Do it again to zoom in further.
    • Drag one finger to pan around.

Check out this helpful link to know more about it.

Zoom and enhance Nest camera video

Regards,

Juni

@Juni

As your link points out, it's possible to temporarily zoom, but the "Enhance" feature to set and maintain a zoom setting while recording is only available in the Google Nest app.  With two of our entrance doors recessed, this is an essential feature for us.

Is there any way for us all to request (vote for) this feature "Zoom & Enhance".
Google has the programming code for it. How do we get it added back in for the cams?

Agreed. This is essential. And Google has the code to do it.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out. We appreciate people who are keen on sharing their thoughts with us. We're always looking for ways to improve. I'd suggest you submit feedback about it. See the article below on how to do it.

Share feedback about Google Nest

Regards,

Juni

Thanks Juni.  I have been providing feedback on the Google Home App for the past couple of months.  There has been no response. It would really help if somewhere we could see the status of our feedback such as this.

Hey TBCuthbert,

I understand. We don't have anything else to share right now, but stay tuned for more news and updates.

Cheers,

Juni

It has been over 6 months.  Google is $trillion company … anybody working in this yet?

It has been 10 months @Juni

it has been another year and 34 months. You now have AI tools as well. Anything to provide as an update?

We have provided countless feedback. We have heard nothing to little back from you or Google Home executive? is Google Home app being dropped? It feels like it..

Done. Several times, as politely as possible.

thank you for your reply.

Thank you for your reply.

What I am looking for is the Zoom & Enhance that we currently have on the Nest app

Google has the coding, please add it to the new Google Home app for our nest cams

I have been using this function for over 10 years. Without it, the cameras are zoomed out too far to use in a practical manner.
please provide an update on getting the zoom and enhanced feature on the Google Home app. Thank you

having to zoom in every single time I use the camera is a bit ridiculous when we had the functionality previously. Don’t you think?

I am trying to stay constructive here. Regards.

Are you still here in this forum? Are there any Google Specialists here? Or is this now just community forum ??? Without any Google staff resources?

Agreed, the Enhance functionality needs to be brought over to the Google Home App. It's difficult to frame the camera exactly for the are you want to view. This is where the "Enhance" feature in the Nest App was extremely valuable.

Please migrate this to the Google Home App.

Any updates?

Also waiting to hear from Google about an update on this.

This isn't the only time where features were taken which would be super beneficial.

I found this yesterday on Gemini doing a Google Search. Sounds promising ...  It does not mention my list but does seem to at least reference Nest cams !!   I am surprised I could nor find it here.

Anything on this? It has been months.

With the new Google Home app. I was able to zoom and save the poison of my Nest cameras.

For your nest IQ cameras? This was not available….until now…?

WOW! You're right. Looks like they FINALLY added this feature.
Maybe there's hope we'll get timelapses back too.

which model camera were you able to do this with? And if it was with any 1st gens, did you have to transfer it from Nest to Google Home?

This was already a feature in the Nest App. It's now available for cameras migrated to the Home app. The home app didn't let me set the zoom for cameras I hadn't migrated yet.
I confirmed this works with my very old nest cam indoor (1st gen), a 1st Gen nest cam outdoor, and a Nest Cam IQ Indoor. It does not seem to be available for my 1st gen Nest Hello Doorbell.
EDIT: Looks like it doesn't work on my Nest Hub Max either.

Pinch zooming on the stream shows a crop button in the bottom left corner, or a reset button if zoom level is already set.

the pinched Zoom to provide the enhanced Zoom works for me in the Nest app for my nest cams but not in the Google Home app for my Nest cams.
this is one of the reasons I moved back over a year ago

along with not having my four coloured activities zones in the scrubbing.

Can others confirm this does work now?

If I go to transfer my camera now, it says I can not transfer it back. I don’t want to transfer this if zoom and enhance doesn’t work.

“Transfer will be permanent.
This camera will stay in the Home app and it can’t be transferred back to the Nest app.”

It does not work for me for my outdoor cam in Google Home app

Which nest cam do you have enhanced the zoom working for in the Google Home app

1st Gen Indoor, 1st Gen Outdoor, and Indoor IQ.
Confirmed it does not work (yet?) with the original Nest Hello doorbell or Nest Hub Max cam.

interesting that it is working for you. It will not work for my ask him door when I tried reporting it from the Nest app to the Google Home app.
as well, my nest outdoor cam in the Google Home app, does not have the enhance Zoom capability that I can find.

if anyone has a link to a video that shows the enhanced Zoom on the Google Home app, please provide the link. Or if you can do a screen record recording and post it that would also be great.
thank you

Yes, I do have the new Google Home
are you using android or iOS device?

mine is iPhone

DOES ANYONE have Google Home app "Enhanced Zoom"
working on iOS  (iPad or iPhone)
for Outdoor 2016?

Sharing what I am experiencing.

I have 11 Nest Cameras, not including cameras on the 5 Nest Hub Max devices, I disabled those cameras as there was no night vision and the angle wasn’t ideal.

Up until today, the zoom and enhance was not available in the Google Home app for the same  devices it was available on in the Nest app. Those devices were the Nest IQ cameras and the original Nest Hello. I don’t believe any other cameras (unless the new 2K ones can) had this ability.

I am on Apple devices, iPhone and iPad, and I am able to use zoom and enhance on my nest hello and all my IQ cameras in the Google Home app.

Not sure if this matters, but I am on the Google Home Preview, and I have Google Home Premium.

I had all my camera in the Google home app except my IQ cameras. Those were still in the nest app. My Nest Hello was in the Google home app, and when I saw the updates here, I tested zoom and enhance with the Hello and it worked. Once I confirmed it was working, I transferred one of my IQ cameras, and once transferred to the Google Home app, that too would allow zoom and enhance. So now transferred them all to Google home.

yes I have the Gemini features. My cams are Outdoor 2016.
I have not bought any new until the Nest app functionality shows up.

I'm currently using the Google home public preview. It does have  Gemini Home enabled. The enhanced zoom is working for my 1st gen indoor camera, and 1st gen nest wired doorbell.

Once you zoom in, it shows a crop button. If you click it, it asks if you want that zoom level saved and anything outside that won't be recorded.

Android or iOS?

thanks

I'm on Android, Pixel.
