doorbell chime on iPhone

We migrated our account to the Home App from Nest and now no longer get a chime notification when someone presses the doorbell. This is making things difficult as we do not have an internal electric chime, but previously we didn't need one. Can anyone help us to turn this back on please?

I'm not sure what you mean by "we had no choice but to migrate because we added a second device." We have Nest Hubs and two 2nd gen cameras (an indoor camera and a battery camera--plugged in) that work only in the Google Home app, and have "transferred" just one of our 1st gen cameras (the one in our Nest Hub Max) to the Google Home app.

Do you have an option to transfer your 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbell back to the Google Nest app?  That transfer-back option is documented here:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/13038234#zippy=%2Cgo-back-to-the-nest-app

(I updated the link, but since we have not "transferred" any of our doorbells, I don't know if the transfer back capability works.)

We migrated our Nest Account to a Google Account in 2020 and did NOT lose the chime notification on our iPhones for our three Google Nest Hello Doorbells because they continued to operate in the Google Nest app. However, I understand from other posts in this forum that if you "transfer" your 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbell from the Google Nest app to the Google Home app, you lose the chime notification. It's one of several Nest app features that is lacking in the Google Home app; other missing features are listed under the misleading "Migrate to access Nest app-only features" topic here:

That's why we still have not transferred our 1st gen cameras and doorbells to the Google Home app.

Thank you for replying. We had no choice but to migrate because we added a second device to the account and while we still get notifications, the doorbell activation is not one of them!

  • I don't know if Apple has this option, but on Android you can have custom verbal announcements from your phone which tells you what smart device has been triggered...

  • You could be lucky to get notification announcements on Google speakers too, if you have them.

I am also do not get an audio alert that someone is at the door. I've gone through every suggestion but nothing works. I have a battery operated Nest doorbell. I know the house chimes won't ring but there's no sound from my phone even though everything is set as it is supposed to be.
