nest protect - does it talk to other nest devices?

Hi

I am about to start going down the "nest" ecosystem rabbit-hole and wanted some advice on the thermostats.

They obviously cost more than traditional fire alarms and i wanted to know what are the added advantages? ie do they also talk to other nest devices such as the alarm system, cameras or thermostats? or are they "just fire alarms"

Thanks

Hi @mehul1977

The Nest Protect devices are poorly integrated into the current Google Nest stack.
For example, the Nest Protect is not visible or manageable using the Google Home App but relies on the Nest app.

But I think the value of the Nest Protect still stands if you use multiple of them:

  • All Protect devices in the same building are aware of each other.
So when one goes off the others will tell you what alarm is happening where.
  • They have a smart way of lighting when you pass by them at night.
  • You are able to turn off the alarm by using the app instead of climbing on a table to press the button. 😋
