Hi Google,

I purchased a nest mesh system from Costco. I also purchased 2 screens for the system.  I was really enjoying having Google in all my rooms (little house 925 sq.)  It was overkill but fun. My internet would be on/off intermittently, and I really thought it was my provider.

I found out (after I missed the tax deadline because internet went down!) that it wasn’t my provide but the wifi router in my mesh. The plug does not go in securely as the inside is wobbly.  Because of Costcos great return policy I can take them back. But I don’t know if I want to chance this expensive setup again…

I was even thinking of getting a different phone because the Apple I bought SE a year or two ago clashes with Google!

I would still have the two screens from Google,  one in my bedroom and one in the kitchen. I can do recipes and monitor my sleep.  Not sure if I should just get rid of everything..?  However, I will have NO wifi as my modem is cable only.

Suggestions? Help?  Since I still have my home app you can see what I have/had hooked up.  Even though nothing is hooked up right now because the router keeps going on/off even without touching it!

Thank  you,

Julie

Hi jwaymire,

Thanks for the update. If ever you get the chance to return your Nest router, if possible, you could try the cable that you're using to the replacement to see if it still wobbles. Give us an update once you get it replaced.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi jwaymire,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Google Nest Wifi. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • How many Google Nest Wifi points do you have?
  • What is the status light of the Nest router whenever the internet goes offline?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi, jwaymire.

Did you happen to see Edward's questions above about the number of points you're using and what color status lights you're seeing on them? If you could provide that info it would help move suggestions forward for you.

Thanks.

Sorry, Edward, I just saw this message.

I have one nest router, three nest points, and two nest screens.  The light turns yellow when offline. My question is really will the screens work as routers themselves? In 925 sq foot house I really only  use the screens. ie: receipes, sleeping.  I have google on my tv too.

Hi jwaymire,

Thanks for the response. I'm afraid that the Nest Hubs doesn't have the capability to act as Wifi points but you could connect them to your new router and would still work as a Google Assistant.

Thanks,

Edward

I have not purchased a new router and just keep shaking the cord when this one doesn't work.

I am not sure what brand/type works with Google (besides for Nest).  I currently have a cable modem only by NetGear and router is the faulty Nest.

Hi jwaymire,

Thanks for letting us know. Could you post a photo of the wobbly cord so we could investigate further?

Thanks,

Edward

i Edward,
It is inside. The cord plugs into a metal pin inside the router to make a connection.  A picture would not show that it wobbles.
I bought the system from Costco so I can return it without issue. I am just on the fence as to buy another 3 nests/router package or go off Costco and just get a router and/or new cable modem with WiFi

Thank you Edward, I did switch the cable with one of the other Ness and when that didn’t work I noticed that the little pin inside was wobbling or loose
