problem setting wake alarm time during goodnight routine

ViciousNarwhal

I have been using goodnight routine since it was available.  Over the past month or so, when it prompts me for the time and I respond "eight fifteen", it responds with search results seemingly breaking out of the routine?  It used to just set an alarm for 8:15am the next day.  Sometimes I have to do "eight fifteen a m", and in extreme cases I've had to do "eight fifteen a m o clock".  Note that this seems to happen irrespective of the time being set.  I am just using 8:15 as a common example.

This is quite annoying as I have to trigger the routine two or three times to get it to register the time correctly.   My wife finds this endlessly hilarious unless she's already trying to sleep.  Fortunately, it is the first item in the routine, so other things have not run yet when this happens.

Same issue on my nest hub! How could simple routine command like setting an alarm got messed up so bad? Whatever time I responded to the alarm setting, it just broke the routine and gave me a search result.

Desperately need some help to set things back to normal.

I have been having the exact same problem. I initiate the goodnight routine, it askes the time for alarm, I give it the time and it initiates a google search for word. Ie Seven and it is looking for the Movie on Netflix

Can we have a solution or fix please? Anyone? It's very annoying to manually set for the alarm, it really breaks the automation purpose of this device.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out. I know how it feels when something isn’t working as it should. Could you all try to recreate the routine and observe if it will make a difference?

Juni

Hey there,

I wanted to follow up and see if you still needed help. Please let me know if you still have any concerns or questions from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Best,

Dan

Well, it still doesn't work to say "eight thirty" to the goodnight routine.  It still ends up replying with search results.  It works fine if I say "eight twenty-nine".  It just seems to be that the Google Assistant has a real annoying bug.  If there's anything further you can help with then great, but I doubt it.

I have tried to factory reset my hub and recreate my routine, but the problem still exists.

For unknown reasons, it just ends up with a search result whenever the assistant asks for a time for the alarm. Even outside of my routine, with a simple voice command, it is not working!

It's been over a month already, I am really tired of coming back here to seek the support that never came.

Hi,

More or less the same problem here in The Netherlands. When the Nest Hub 2 asks for the wakeup time, it doesn't accept whatever time I tell it. It just says "OK, what time?" and keeps repeating that over and over no matter if I answer with a wake up time or a curse or what. Only thing it recognises is "None". Then it responds with "OK, no problem. No alarm set". Since I live in The Netherlands the dialogue is really in Dutch, but that has been working for years without problem. So I would think this is easy to fix. Roll back the previous version of the Set Alarm Time routine for inside the Bedtime routine and never touch it again. It was perfect.

Update:

The problem is solved. There is a complete new alarmclock routine for inside the Goodnight routine. And it is an improvement over the old one. There are much more options and settings in this routine, including sunrise mode for your lights. This new routine accepts my voice input for an alarm time just fine.

Only thing I don't understand is: Is there no possibility for Google to warn people that they are using an outdated routine that should be replaced for things to work normal?

Where did you find the new alarm clock routine? I don't see it in my routine settings

That is part of the problem. You don't see it. You have to throw away the old alarmclock routine in your Goodnight routine, save it without the routine, re-open it and add the alarmclock routine. It looks exactly like the old one. But when you start the Goodnight routine and the new alarm clock routine starts, it will accept your spoken wakeup time and show a screen full of options for more sounds, sunrise lighting, etc.

If you are scared to throw away your old alarmclock routine (as I was) you can temporarily create a new Goodnight2 routine and add the setting the alamclock routine. That should automatically be the new one. If it works, you can safely replace the routine in your real Goodnight routine.

It worked! Thanks so much!!

I was pretty sure I have done this before (recreate the routine), but it didn't work back then for some reason. Thank goodness I can use my goodnight routine as usual once again.
