Nest Doorbell keeps buffering when someone rings the doorbell

I have a Nest Doorbell.  Whenever someone rings the doorbell the app just buffers so I can never see who it is our talk to them until 2-3 minutes after the doorbell rang. By that time they are gone and I can see who it was on history. I have an iPhone and great Wifi so it's not the phone or the WiFi speed.

Same here. I thought I needed to add more Wi-Fi extenders.

Hi folks,

I’m sorry to hear your doorbell keeps on buffering when someone rings it. Let’s see what’s going on — a few questions: what type of Nest doorbell do you have? When did the issue start? How far is the doorbell from the router? Were there any changes to your Wi-Fi network? Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the doorbell? Also, is it connected to a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi network?

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Close all the apps running in the background of your phone, reopen the Google Home app. Then, check your doorbell live feed again.
  2. At the highest video quality setting, your doorbell can use a large chunk of the internet connection to stream video. Slower internet service might not be able to keep up. Check your internet speed here: https://goo.gle/2JaUmYI. The page would show your download speed then click “Show more info” to check your upload speed. Have a look at this article for your guide: Internet bandwidth and speed requirements for Nest cameras.
  3. Open the Home app Google Home app.
  4. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  5. At the top right, tap Settings .
  6. Choose Video.
  7. Under “Video quality,” choose Max or High.
    • High settings uses less bandwidth.
    • Max settings uses more bandwidth.
  8. Restart your phone, turn it off for 60 seconds then turn it on.
  9. If you have a dual band Wi-Fi frequency switch your connection to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi to improve your connection.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

JT

The doorebell seems to be a Nest Doorbell (f/k/a Nest Hello). It was already installed on the home when I bought the home. I have great WiFi and the router is upstairs above the front door where the doorbell is.   Not sure the GHz of the network but it's Xfinity. The only other WiFi is 2 TV's and 2 cell phones. I've tried everything but didn't turn off the phone for 60 seconds. Let me try that and I'll see if that works.

I’ve had the same issues with Nest before Google bought them and now with new Google doorbell cam. Loads fast, strong internet connection and quick playback, until someone rings the doorbell, can never talk to them, only buffers. USLESS!!!
