Alarms going off

Ever time I cook a steak the smoke alarms go off! I’m sick of it.  How do I stop the alarms going off when I cook?

Same issue though different circumstances. 

I just installed two wired Protects a few days ago and am finding that they alarm for smoke every time I use my fireplace.  Yes, I can silence them from my phone but they alarm repeatedly.  Not happy.

The fireplace is in good repair, the flue is clear, chimney was cleaned over the summer, and there are no downdrafts.  I'm in a cold weather region so the fireplace is needed for supplemental heat.  

This was not an issue with the detectors the Protects replaced.  Insights, suggestions, etc. much appreciated.

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. It’s recommended that you place a smoke alarm on every floor, while a carbon monoxide alarm is recommended in every room containing a fuel burning appliance. There may be additional local regulations that you need to follow. There are also rooms where installing a smoke and carbon monoxide alarm is not recommended and the kitchen is one of them. However, Nest Protect can be installed at least 3 m (10 feet), from cooktops or cooking appliances

Thanks, but your response only tells me where to install the Nest Protects.  My two hardwired Nest Protects are installed as mandated by my state fire code.  The issue is the Nest Protects going off (false alarms) every time I use my wood burning fireplace, which didn't happen with the detectors the Nests replaced.  Still need advice on how to solve this specific issue.

We appreciate you getting back to us and for sharing your thoughts with us. The link I've shared will give you the information about the rooms here installing the Nest Protect is not recommended. That includes the kitchens, unfinished attics, garages and furnace rooms, or any room that contains a water heater or a furnace. To avoid nuisance alarms, the smoke and carbon monoxide alarm should be at a horizontal distance of more than 1 meters from the potential fuel-burning source of carbon monoxide. To confirm, how far is your Nest Protect from your fireplace?

I really do appreciate the response but you're either not reading or not understanding my previous posts.  I've been using hardwired smoke detectors for some 35 years so I really do know where they should go and not go.  Besides, the locations of hardwired smoke/CO detectors in condo units like mine are mandated by the state fire code.  The problem is that every single time I use my wood burning fireplace, one of two Protects (located in a loft space one level above and at least 40 ft from the fireplace) repeatedly triggers.  This was never an issue with the "dumb" detectors the Protects replaced.  Not a happy camper here.

I'm sorry if that is not the answer you're looking for. This is not the experience we want you to have. To confirm, have you tried performing a safety check? You may also try resetting it to the factory default and re-add it to the app then check its behavior. Let us know how it goes.

March was much warmer than usual, so I haven't had a need to use the fireplace since my 2/23 post.  Safety checks are normal and I'm reluctant to do a factory reset.  Please note the location of the offending unit:  (in a loft space one level above and at least 40 ft from the fireplace).  It's the heated air rising from the fireplace that triggered the alarms.
