When does nest protect's warranty count from?

If we bought a sealed and unused Nest Protect from ebay, with a serial number from 2021, when would its warranty run from, and would it be covered? It's being sold by a charity who recieved it as a donation, but no one has ever opened box ( still sealed in plastic) or used it, obviously.
