Hello google,
Why is there no ability to schedule heating cycles for 15 or 30 minutes? I am very disappointed to see that this is not possible via your home app/ home website or the learning thermostat itself. I have spend £200 and ended going backwards from my Honeywell thermostat in terms of scheduling capability for short heating cycles. 1 hour minimum is way too much and waste of gas. Please do something about this! It would be a very welcome addition to the scheduler and help us save money when gas prices are at their highest I have seen.

Hello vicky57t,
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry.
The Nest Thermostat's scheduled temperatures help set your desired temperature at a specific time and will turn off once it reaches the temperature, then maintain it. Having a minimum of an hour's interval would help the system cool down and avoid internal damage. There were times the system wasn't efficient enough to reach the target temperature in 15–30 minutes, depending on the indoor temperature and the set temperatures.
But I'd love to know more about this. Could you please tell us which Nest thermostat model you have and what type of HVAC system you have? Also, from what country are you posting?
Thanks,
Mark

Hello Mark,
Thanks for getting back.
I do not understand which internal system you are talking about? Is it the boiler/heating system? If yes, then I have been using it for short intervals for years with my Honeywell thermostat previously without any issues. The system does not have to be efficient enough to reach the desired temperature in 15-30 minutes, the requirement here is to have it give a heating boost sometimes just before wake up time. There is no point having a smart thermostat if I have to wake up just to switch it on for 15-30 minutes. There is no countdown feature in the app either where I could set the heating on for it to switch off automatically after 30/60 minutes. The app is seriously lacking against other options from Tado and Hive. I it is seriously disappointing that a leading software and AI company like Google could not think of these daily scenarios!
I have purchased the Nest learning gen 3 model but I am seriously considering returning it. My HVAC is a combi boiler (Worcester Bosch) with heating delivered via radiators. I am based in the UK.

Hi there, and thanks for your reply. As you said and as my colleague confirmed, the thermostat only allows for set points with an at least 1 hour interval. This is in order to make the energy consumption as efficient as possible, in relation to how much it takes to heat and maintain the temperature of a home. I understand that it might not perfectly fit with everyone's preferences, and I'm really sorry that you find this inconvenient. You can be sure that I'll pass your feedback to the suitable department, and it will be taken into account for the future. Is there anything else I can assist you with at the moment?
