4th generation won't do Nest app

I bought a nest 4th generation thermostat and in the nest app it wants a entry key. Where on the 4th generation thermostat is the entry key. I tried doing the QR code and it said it was invalid. How do I connect the 4th generation thermostat to the Android Nest app?

This is correct - 4th gen is only supported using Google Home. The Google Home app just had an update put out to support the 4th gen.

Tried to do the same thing but it looks like the nest app is no longer supported. I’m using the Google home app and I really don’t like it

Why is Google going backwards in technology. I much rather use a dedicated app for the thermostat. I am considering going back to the 3rd generation thermostat. Why would Google remove a excellent feature, going to look at other companies who make thermostats, Google seems to be removing features and then having the customers pay more. Totally stupid.

Between friends and family, I've helped set up around a dozen Nest thermostats. So, I didn't do much research when I bought two 4th Gen units for a new duplex. The installation process was definitely less smooth than with the older models, and when I tried to add them to the Nest app on my phone, I was super annoyed to find out I had to use Google Home to manage them. The Google Home app is designed for a much bigger ecosystem, which is why I REALLY don't like using it. The only thing I use it for is managing thermostats, but now I have to drill down through a bunch of options just to change a temperature setting. It's great that the Nests work with Google Home, but don't kill the dedicated app just to force people into the Google Home ecosystem. This experience has definitely turned me off from using any more Google-owned hardware products.

How did you add 4th generation and prior Nest Thermostats to google web browser?  The app works fine but is a pain and I really want to see all my 9 stats from a PC screen sitting down in a chair?  There does not seem to be a way to "add" the thermostats to my account and the brower side.?

As of this posting, there is no ability to adjust or view the thermostats from home.google.com.  Yet another feature downgrade compared to older Nest hardware.

Unreal.  Google really dropped the ball.  I miss Nest already...

Hi @MikeBott!

Thanks for posting in the community.
I’m sorry to hear that you are unable to control your Nest thermostat using Google Home for Webb. In this case, I will suggest you check if you are able to control it using the Nest App for Webb. Also,  you can fill out the feedback form where you can put your suggestions, and we are going to work on that.

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to answer.

Regards,
Daniel.

I've loved all my Nest products beginning with the 1st Gen Nest Thermostat.  I don't like the Google Home app and have resisted buying any new Nest products because I refuse to use it and want to keep using my Nest app. AND then my thermostat stopped "finding" my home wifi network.  I've tried everything and Google support is blaming my internet provider which in turn is blaming the Nest app.  I have the Nest Hello and the Yale Lock, exterior cameras and a few smoke detectors.  I DO NOT want to have to use separate apps.  Very frustrated.

Just got the 4th gen thermostat and wanted to add it to the nest app. After a bit of googling, I found this post. Have to say this really disappointing. Maybe google should ask what their customers want they want. I prefer the Nest app for the simplicity and ease of use. Guess I will have to go look if I can find a new gen 3 somewhere.

Hello,

It looks like the recommended answer has worked for most folks encountering these questions. If you have another concern, I’ll be more than glad to assist.

Best regards,

Daniel

Oh jeah, what is the recommended answer? I did not see a solution, seems like the only conclusion is to just suck it up and accept that new the google nest gen 4 sucks? Does not sound like much of a solution to me. Maybe someone at google should start paying attention to their customer's needs.

Shopgoodwill dot com, it’s where I got my 4th gen for $30

Hmmm, $30 hey, probably someone who gave up on the gen 4 and "upgraded" to a gen 3 🤣
