We had the Nest thermostat installed for several months now and the AC was working fine, we don't use it often as it does cool down enough here. However, today we closed up the house to go out for a bit and through we'd run the AC while away as it's a warm day. The compressor didn't come on!
I've read through several of the questions/threads for help but can't seem to figure out what might be our problem. I'm considering going back to my older analog thermostat. As calling a repair man for this at this time of the summer will be expensive!
Anyone have any off-the-wall suggestions short of a hammer?

Hi TonyMnLA,
Thanks for reaching out to our community.
Not being able to get your AC working can certainly be frustrating, but let's see what we can do to get it running again.
There are several reasons why your thermostat might not be able to start the AC, so we need to figure out what's causing this to happen.
I'd like to know what type of system you have and if your equipment can heat. If it can, what happens when you try to start the heating?
As a general tip, check the equipment screen on your thermostat to make sure everything is set up correctly. If there's a problem, it will likely show an error code that can help explain why the thermostat isn't starting the cooling properly. Also, changing your air filters if they haven't been replaced in a while is a good idea, as dirty filters can cause the system to turn off unexpectedly and prevent cooling.
Let me know how it goes.
Regards,
Angel.

Hey - I spent nearly 90 minutes with tech support working on the thermostat. Changing out wiring and testing the heater....determined that the thermostat is working fine. They suggested we contact OnTech to have a technician come out...charge me $160 to basically tell me that the thermostat working fine. I did schedule than decided to cancel. We called the AC installer to have them come check see if the problem is upstream from the thermostat.
The system worked fine a week ago, used my phone app to turn it on and off and set the temp changes. I'll post here once we can get any info from the installer.
