AC Unit wont stop Cooling

John2023

Hi,

I have four nest thermostats (probably older more basic models as they can only connect via slower wifi bandwidth). I have two different sets of AC units (two small and two large) with each size grouping having two of the same type of units. The smaller units thermostats run fine. One of the larger unit thermostats runs fine also, no issues. The second thermostat on the other larger unit I had to install because we needed to get an extender for it to connect consistently (this unit had a standard thermostat for some time). I set it up the same as the other large unit but now the AC Unit will not turn off cooling. The only way to turn it off is via the breaker. The thermostat reads off, and the fan unit stops blowing, but the AC unit continues to run and cool. I am thinking of doing a reset and trying again but maybe there is something I am missing? Thanks for any help!

Hi John2023,

Thanks for posting here in Community forum, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. Let's sort this out.

Please try to remove the Nest Learning Thermostat display from the base and wait about five minutes, then observe if the system will turn on or off.

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe

Hi,

I tried that and unfortunately it didn't shut it off, we already had our local AC guy coming by so will let you know what he says! Thanks for responding so quick. I appreciate you!

Hi,

Thanks for checking in its appreciated. Long story short, we have old units and some wires had the insulation degrade and short. It just so happened to coincide with me replacing the thermostat and we had not used the AC all winter (or heating as we live in Arizona and it's not used much). Anyway, it was an easy repair and it works great now! Thanks to everyone for the help!
