AC condenser turns on in winter time repeatedly with Nest, but fan is not running

Nest thermostat is set to hear only right now, but I have noticed sometime the AC condenser unit will run on (start spinning), even though the system shows no activity and the fan unit is not blowing. Condenser will run for a few seconds then stop repeatedly. If I rest the NEst thermostat it fixes it for a while (weeks), but problem seems to keep coming back.

Hi @rbergl!

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I am sorry that your AC condenser turns on in wintertime repeatedly, but no need to worry; help is here. We appreciate all of your previous troubleshooting efforts. I need to know a few things about your thermostat in order to provide you with a better resolution.

  • What Nest thermostat model do you have? For your reference, you can check out this article on how to tell which Nest thermostat you have.
  • Does the thermostat display show any error codes or messages?
  • When did the issue first occur?
  • When was the thermostat installed?
  • What is the make and model of your HVAC equipment?
  • Do you see a blinking LED light? If so, is it red or green?

I'll be waiting for your response; any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,
Jeremy.

@rbergl

Is this a new install or one that has been working but doesn't now?

Can you post a picture of the original thermostat's wiring?
