Ac condensor turns on when not suppose to

The Ac compressor will just turn on randomly when in any mode when its not suppose 2. I caught it running and since its not calling for ac, it freezes up the lines and condensor. Also itruns when the heat is on out of no where. If i kill power to unit it usually lasts 24 hours before happening again. Ac and heat both work like suppose to when called apon. I do have the C wire hooked up as well. I did see a video saying since C wire connected that it discharges power through the ac condensor but not enough to turn it on. But thats not the case for mine maybe its just a defective thermostat? I hooked my old regular thermostat back up and havent had an issue so far after 3 days

Hi Roc,

Thanks for reaching out and for being a step ahead of us. I'm sorry for the delay. A few questions: what type of Nest Thermostat do you have? You can visit this link to check what type of thermostat you have. Also, do you see any messages or codes on your thermostat or in the app?

Best,

Jenelyn

I have google nest 3rd gen and no codes. Ran diagnostic everything works as it should when called apon. Just the AC condensor will run out of no when on heat or AC mode. I seen a video stating that with C wire hooked up it charges entire time and diacharges by sending power through the AC condensor but not enough to turn it ON.  Also said only 10 percent of people need the C wire not sure how true that is.

Hi there,

It will be useful to check your Nest Thermostat’s Energy History for more information about the thermostat's previous-day activity. This step is useful if you want to know what causes the unusual thermostat activation. Please visit this support article for your reference on how to read your Nest Thermostat Energy History.

Yes that would show when the heat runs but not the ac condensor outside running. Nothing else can be running and the ac condensor will be on which then freezes up the unit. It stopped when i went back to regular thermostat.
