Air conditioning blowing heat

Hello!

I know this has been talked about on other posts, but I wanted to make sure I was doing the correct thing before I changed the wiring for my system.

When I first installed my Nest Learning Thermostat, it would blow hot air when it was supposed to be blowing cold air. I looked for the setting for "heat pump" but could not find the option under settings for that.

I did not put the W1 wire into the OB slot as it says to do on other posts. I have attached photos of my old system, and how I had the Nest wired up. Please let me know what I am doing wrong, or if I am missing some larger issue.

Thank you!NestThermostatWiring.jpgOldThermostatWiring.jpg

Hello skidude7253,

I'm glad that you're reaching out for assistance with your Nest Learning Thermostat. I understand the frustration of dealing with unexpected heating issues. To better assist you, I'd recommend taking a closer look at the wiring setup.

From your description, it seems like the W1 wire might need to be placed in the OB slot, as suggested in other posts. This adjustment is often necessary for heat pump systems to function correctly with the Nest thermostat. The OB slot is typically associated with the reversing valve in heat pump systems.

Reviewing the photos of your old system and how the Nest Thermostat is currently wired can be confusing. To make sure, move the orange wire to the O/B terminal and restart your thermostat to reconfigure your system. Perform a factory data reset if needed.

Let me know if you need more help.

Best regards,
Mark
