App and Amazon Echo Bypass Locked Termperature Range

I have locked the thermostat to heat only within a specified temperature range. This range is only valid on the physical thermostat. The Google Home App and my Amazon Echo Dot allow the user to override the locked temperature range. In other words, anyone using the app or the Amazon Echo Dot to change the temperature can set the heat to any temperature they want, even outside the locked range.

Is there a way to fix this? In other words, am I missig something? Is there away to lock the temperature within a range that the Google Home App and the Amazon Echo Dot cannot override it? Please help. Thank you!

Hi sphynden22,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that you need to lock the temperature on your Google Nest Thermostat, but it doesn't follow the range temperature on the Google Home app. I'm happy to help you. Before assisting you, I need to ask you some questions to better understand the situation:

  • How many people have access to your Google Account?
  • When you try to set up the range, does it ask for a PIN or not?

I will be awaiting your response.

Regards,
Manuel

Manuel, yes, the Home app made me set up the password to lock a temperature range. The physical thermostat makes me enter the passcode in order to go above or below the locked temperature range. However, the Home app and the smart speakers do not require me to enter a passcode to go above or below the locked temperature range. They simply bypass that range. I use the AmAzon Echo Dot speaker in my basement, which I have converted into an airbnb apartment. Guests use it to change the thermostat temperature. The physical thermostat is upstairs where I live. So, I am the only one who has access to the physical thermostat and the Home app. Guests downstairs have access to the Amazon Echo Dot.

PS: I also use a Google nest speaker upstairs. it also bypasses the thermostat’s locked temperature range without requiring any passcode. It allows me to set the thermostat to any temperature, disregarding the limits I have set.
