Automate the Fan Schedule Based on House Temp?

I picked up a Nest Gen 1 Thermostat off Ebay for a great deal $60. It's pretty amazing how full-featured these things are for being several years old. But a thermostat is not that complex of a device. Nevertheless, the one feature I wish I had was automated control of the fan schedule. I live in high altitude with wide temp extremes. I don't want the fan schedule running on days that start out very cold in the morning then get hot in the afternoon as the fan is just sucking hot air from the intake on the ceiling and pumping it around the house to make it hotter making it more likely the A/C will be triggered.

Seems the only solution is to manually adjust the fan schedule based on the season. Sure would be nice if I could tell the device to automatically disable the fan schedule completely or when the house internal temp goes above a certain point. IFTTT?

Hello JJZee,

Thank you for taking the time in letting us know about your inquiry.

The fan controls on the Nest Thermostat may be configured to run on a predetermined schedule or manually. For example, when you leave or return home, it cannot be programmed to run or turn off automatically. As a result, it can only be set on a timer depending on the temperature modes and not by inside temperature.

You may use your Nest Thermostat as is for the time being, but rest assured that our team is working hard to add more features so that it performs flawlessly. Who knows, this might get added on it's next update release. We're really working to bring more features on Nest thermostats and I think your request will be a great add. Stay tuned to our Google Nest Community page for news and announcements.

Feel free to let us know if you have more questions in mind.

Thanks,

Mark
