Away mode doesn't seem to be using preferred thermometer

I recently added a nest thermometer and connected it to my nest learning thermostat.  There thermometer is in a room that is almost always 2-3 degrees warmer so I have the thermostat set to always use the connected thermometer.

However, when it goes into away (eco) mode, it's like it defaults back to the main thermostat for the temperature.  I have eco set to a maximum of 76 but the thermometer will show 80 and not show the system actively cooling.  I don't see any settings to choose a different thermometer for home or away.

Hey fosojedi,

Sorry for the late reply. I wanted to follow up and see I could be of any help. I found an article that provides more details. Please let me know if you are still having any trouble from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Best regards,
Jake

That article didn't cover the issue.  It has the away mode routines set up.  And that's mostly working the way I want.

The issue is that I have nest set to use the thermometer in a different room to determine when to cool.  When nest is in home setting, it works fine.  It cools until that room has reached the desired temperature.

But, when it's in away mode, it only cools based on the thermostat, not the thermometer in the other room.  So away will be set to cool to 75 and the thermometer will show up to 80 and cooling will be off.  It's not about the routines, it's about using the temperature sensor I want.

Hey fosojedi,

I am sorry that the first article was not helpful. I know having your home set to the wrong temperature is not an ideal situation. I found another article with some troubleshooting steps on the sensor. Please let me know if that helps, or if you are still having issues.

Best regards,

Jake

I did see his response but it didn't provide anything that I hadn't already seen and tried.  Unfortunately, at the time, I didn't take a screenshot.  But, it showed in Eco, set to 76 and the selected thermometer at 78 with no cooling taking place.  I've been trying to replicate but I can only set eco down to 76 and I haven't been able to get the temperatures right where it should be on, but it's not since then.

Hey fosojedi,

Thanks for the reply and we're sorry for the delay.

There are a couple of things we could check. Are you using the Google Home app to manage your thermostat? Have you tried setting the Nest Temperature Sensor schedule?

Regards,

Ryan
