Blinking red light, no display, I’m cold, and aux heat?

I’ve had my Nest learning thermostat since October. It’s been working fine, but now there’s no display, a blinking red light, it says the battery is low (when I unplug it and plug it back in) and for the two seconds I can see a display it says aux heat. I need my heater working now! Going to be a cold night.

Hello Afkbrad,

Thanks for reaching out. It appears that your system may not provide enough power or any power to either the thermostat or a specific wire (so the thermostat can’t complete a circuit and won't turn on). Let's see what's going on.

  1. Check the power from your HVAC system at the breaker box and make sure that it's turned on.
  2. Press and hold the thermostat screen for 10 seconds, then wait until it reboots.
  3. If nothing happens, try charging your thermostat display for an hour using a USB charger.
  4. Remove the display from its base and connect the cable to the USB port at the back of it.
  5. Inspect the base and make sure that all wires are properly connected on the base and that the tabs are pushed down.
  6. After charging for an hour. Reattach the display to its base.
  7. Wait until it turns on and check for any wiring reports or message codes.
    1. If there is, let us know and gather the power readouts from "Technical Info"

Please keep us posted on how it goes.

Regards,
Mark

Hey there,

I'm checking back in. Were you able to do the steps above? I'd be glad to hear from you; I'd like to make sure everything is working.

Thanks,

Mark
