Can't connect Nest Thermostat to App after trying every trick out there

Beate

My modem/wifi router got reinstall yesterday. I got everything back running and the thermostat is back online but I cannot get it back onto the Google home app (up to 5 hrs of trying yet). Deleted/uninstalled Thermostat from the app; deleted/reinstalled/updated Home app; resetted modem and wifi router; resetted nest thermostat / replaced batteries. I can't do a factory reset at the moment as we have a winter storm (can't take chances to screw it up). When trying to add the thermostat back to the home app, it stalls when trying to find it via Bluetooth (also turned on/off many times; placed phone right next to thermostat; tried 3 devices to find the Nest; nothing works). Same message: Something went wrong. Thermostat has strong wifi connection but say's Under "Nest Server: Cannot control thermostat from App.". On article talks about selection 2.4GHz wifi (instead of 5G - which it shows now), but how can I change the wifi selection if I cannot control the device from the home app?

Hi Beate,

Thanks for reaching out. Nest Thermostat 2020 could only be added to your account once you factory reset it. To factory reset  your thermostat, go to Settings then look for Factory  Reset. The message "Continue setup to the Google Home app" shows once it's ready to start the setup process.

Best,

Jenelyn
