Can't set 'away' mode

Markysparky

I have just installed a nest learning thermometer.

Seems to be working fine except when i select 'away' and the thermometer doesn't immediately turn down the temperature to the eco temperature.

When I look at history, the thermometer switched on at 04:00 and heated to 20 degrees, then continued to heat the house throughout the day.  (BTW the normal 'on' time when home is 06:00).

How can I check / force the away mode.

Hello Markysparky,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd be happy to take a look at this for you.

If you manually set your thermostat to "away" status when you're at home, your thermostat might take time as it still senses your presence in the location. A sudden change in your thermostat's routine could also cause confusion when auto-learning is enabled. As a result, the thermostat is having a hard time learning from your set temperatures unless you manually switch it to Eco mode.

In addition, if you have a home member added to the app for thermostat access, ensure that the settings on the Nest app's Home and Away Assist are the same as what you have on your phone.

Feel free to let us know if you have more questions in mind.

Regards,

Mark

Hey there,

I wanted to see if you still needed help. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Mark

Managed to sort this thanks.  I hadn't set the 'what happens when you are away' option under settings - now set to Eco.

The other problem was that the heating was coming on at 4am even though it had a 6am 'start time'.  I'm pretty sure that is because of the learnt 'time to temp' and I can't find a way to disable it (basically, when the heating comes on it wakes me so I don't want it at 4am even if it going to take 4 hours to heat up!!)

Hello Markysparky,

Great troubleshooting so far! I was able to find a great article that should be able to help you set a temperature schedule so that when you're asleep, you don't have to worry about the temperature changing and waking you up. Please ensure to clear or edit your temperature schedule if needed. Also, if you have a heat pump system, disable the early-on or heat pump balance settings.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Mark
