Cannot connect Nest to Google Home

Brand new Nest thermostat, set it up with the Nest app using my Google account.

Go into Home (same Google account), and add a "works with Google" device. Takes me to where there is normally a login page, but get the message below and can get no further.

Any ideas about where I'm going wrong?

Once you add a Nest thermostat in the Google Nest app, it is supposed to AUTOMATICALLY appear in the Google Home app as long as you're logging into both apps with the same Google account and accessing the exact same Google Nest "home/structure". You do NOT use the "Works with Google" option in the Google Home app to try to make this happen.

Some users report that if they've failed to add their thermostat to a "room" in the Google Nest app, it doesn't appear in the Google Home app until they do so.

Others have resorted to creating a temporary second Google Nest "home/structure" in the Google Nest app, then going to that new, empty second "home" in the Google Home app and deleting it. This apparently forces the two apps to sync.

Others have reported that the thermostat just doesn't appear automatically in the Google Home app as it should, or takes quite awhile to do so.

Thank you!

The temporary home didn't work, but moving the thermostat in the Nest app into a room previously known in the Home app fixed it.
