Change air filter message won't stay acknowledged.

I am having two issues regarding my thermostat. It's a Gen. 3 thermostat. It worked fine for the first year. I am using the Nest app but it is also tied into my SmartThings app. It began by notifying me that the wiring was bad and showing me the wiring schematic. I'd acknowledge it and the message would go away.

In December I changed the filter, per the notice on the thermostat that it was time. When I would acknowledge the filter message it would go away only to reappear shortly thereafter. This has continued since then.

Last week the heat stopped coming on and would hum instead. Then it would finally begin blowing. I called the HVAC people. They thought it was the wiring which lacked a common wire. They came out and replaced the ancient four conductor cable with a five conductor cable. That's when they discovered the blower was seizing up. They replaced the blower too. I am not seeing the wiring error message but I continue to see the filter message.

Furthermore, I have a temperature sensor but the thermostat refuses to find it. The sensor was replaced a while back but has never been seen by the thermostat. I just never pursued this problem. My gut tells me this is in the thermostat since there seem to be so many issues.

Any ideas to further troubleshoot these problems?

Peter
