Compatibility of different generation nests

Good evening,

We currently have a 2nd generation thermostat and need to get a 2nd thermostat for the other heating zone in the house so could we get a 3rd generation one?

We want to make sure they will work alongside each other.

Using a 3rd Gen with a 2nd Gen will work just fine.
