Compressor shuts off. Fan still runs

Every night about the same time my a/c compressor just shuts off. The blower fan continues to run. We notice the house is starting to warm. We then shut off the a/c unit. When we restart the unit the fan blows for a little bit and then the compressor finally kicks back on. We just had the compressor fan motor and capacitor replaced thinking that might be causing this and it’s still happening. Could it be the thermostat. Happens once a night around 7:30.

Hello @fseikp,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand that your A/C compressor stops running around 7:30 PM, but the blower fan continues to operate, and you can get the compressor to start again by manually restarting the unit. I understand that you already had professional repairs done on your system. Let's work together for a solution.

Since this is happening at a consistent time every night, the first place to look is at the thermostat's settings. Could you please provide a few more details?

  • Could you please confirm the specific model of your thermostat? (Please visit our Help Center to learn more about how to tell which Nest thermostat you have).

  • When did the issue start?
  • Do you have a cooling schedule or a routine set up in the Google Home app for around 7:30 PM?

  • Do you have the Home/Away Assist feature enabled?

  • Have you checked the Energy History in the Google Home app to see if any events or messages are logged around that time?

In the meantime, please check your thermostat's wiring to ensure all wires are securely inserted into their terminals. A loose wire could cause an intermittent issue like this.

I look forward to your response so we can continue to work on a solution together.

Regards,

Kevin
