Continuous fan

SRTobias

By building code requirements I need to run the fan continuously during occupied periods. Most thermostats have a (auto or on) setting and can be set to run continuously when the heat or cool is scheduled on. I only need to run the fan on the days and hours the schedule is on. I need to use a different thermostat if Nest can't do this.

  • You can run your system's fan independently of heating or cooling. So your system doesn't need to be actively heating or cooling to run the fan.
  • However, you can only run the fan when your thermostat is set to a temperature mode (like Cool mode, for example). You cannot run the fan if your thermostat is set to Off
  • You can set the fan to run a fixed schedule or manually set it to run. It can't be set to automatically run or switch off when you leave or come home.
  • You'll see a fan icon on the temperature screen when your fan is running because of your fan schedule, or if you've turned your fan on manually.

I hope this helps you understand the fan control of your Nest Thermostat

As I understand the Nest fan operation is not the same as most thermostats. Most thermostats have a on or continuous setting. Most thermostats enable the fan to run with the heating and cooling schedules. Nest thermostats use a separate fan schedule that doesn't apply to the normal schedule. This results in the fan running when it is not needed. I hope you can understand this.
