Display doesn't wake up

It used to be that when I walked by the thermostat, the display would come on and show the temperature setting or the current status. Now the majority of the time, it no longer does this. When I tap the display or turn the dial, it takes a minute or so for the display to turn on. The thermostat also recently dropped the WiFi connection twice in a week.

I've reset the thermostat and have removed it from the app and re added it. According to the phone support, it's apparently completely normal for the display to be *unresponsive.* I don't see how that's normal when it used to turn on anytime I walked near it.

If the unit were to drop the WiFi again, I would not be able to control the unit remotely and with the display issue, it would be difficult to control the temperature directly from the unit.

I have no idea how the old the unit is, but it's new to me as of last August.

Hi cb2367,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

We apreciate all the details you've shared. A few things we'd like to ask-- can you tell us what type of thermostat are you using? Also, when did the issue start to happen? Lastly, can you tell us if you have tried any troubleshooting steps after you notice it?

We'd like to get more details regarding this so we can start some troubleshooting steps that might resolve this.

Best,

Princess

I have a Nest Learning thermostat. The issue of the display not waking up has been ongoing for the past few weeks.

For troubleshooting, I've done a reset on the unit which wiped out the WiFi connection and I deleted the thermostat from the app and set it back up.

This has not resolved the issue..I don't see how this is normal for the thermostat to be this way when previously I could just walk by it or even just walk into the room where the thermostat is and the display would turn on.

Hi cb2367,

Thanks for the response. I'd love to know more about this. Could you check the battery level of your Nest Thermostat? You can find this by going to your Nest Thermostat's Settings > Technical Info > Power. Also, how is your Nest Thermostat wired?

Thanks,

Edward

And now the app is reporting the unit is offline but when I check it on the unit, it shows connected. This is the THIRD time this month I've had this issue.

Power info:

Battery 3.89v

Voc 32.86

Vin 32.86

Lin 200mA.

With the app dropping the WiFi and with the display issue, I basically have no control of the temperature setting.

If these issues don't get resolved then I'm changing the unit to something else.

Something is going on with the thermostat unit. Wake on approach has about a 30 second delay before turning on and I discovered that is also the same for wake on tap.

Secondly, the app reported the thermostat was offline while the thermostat showed is connected to the nest account and to WiFi.

The following day, the WiFi on the thermostat disconnected and would not connect back to my network nor find any network until after I did another reset (at least the fourth one this month).

I don't know how old the unit is, but it's new to me as of August of last year. It was installed in a home I purchased around that time.

Guess it's time to take the nest down and go to ecobee?
