Can You Add A Nest Learning Thermostat - 2nd Generation to Google Home?

FixWhatsBroke

I have finally gotten around to installing a 2nd Generation Nest Learning Thermostat I've had for years and have set it up successfully in the legacy Nest app, but have not been able to find a way to get it to appear in the Google Home app.

There is no QR Code on the box or in the pamphlet and I can't seem to find the setup code they ask for (which I recall seeing when setting it up in the legacy app).  Any suggestions?  Or do we know this isn't possible?

Are you using the same account in the Nest app and Home app? Once you’ve set up the thermostat in the Nest app, it should automatically in the Home app. Close both apps first, then open the Home app and check if the thermostat is listed under a room name or under "Local devices." If it isn't listed, try these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the top right, tap your account.
  3. Tap Assistant settings > Home control.
  4. Swipe down with your finger on the screen.
  5. There will be a spinning circle. The sync is complete when the circle disappears.
  6. Check for your thermostat again under a room name or "local devices".

No we're good!

Problem solved under Google's wing with the caveat to those that say "it should show up" with "showing up may take up to a day."

While David's solution may well be viable, it was not the antecedent in this particular solution.

Thanks, David.  Yes on same account.

It ended up recognized about a day later.  I saw that the sync had eventually occurred before I was able to get to try your "kickstart sync" solution.

Will do so on the next.

All is well.

Nope, all good as far as the thermostat goes.

Wouldn't mind an update on the features I'm seeing as sorely lacking on the Nest Battery Cameras in this other thread, if you've insight there.

But otherwise, thanks for the diligence.  I'd say this thread is closable, if your inquiry is towards such!

Ah!  Also thought to myself this morning while passing by in a darkened hallway after just getting up that having the option to display the time on the thermostat as opposed to the temperature would be a welcome feature.  Might add that to any lists out there.
