Google Nest Thermostat never stops cooling

proddef

Hi everyone, we are having a strange situation where if we connect a Nest learning Thermostat to our system it works like a charm, but the Nest Thermostat (2020) never stop cooling for some reason.
We have systems installed per room and in one of them I successfully made the thermostat (2020) work, but in the rest of the cases I see the same behavior, cooling starts and it never stops (and the room can be 10f below the desired temperature).
how can I troubleshoot this situation?
Thanks in advance!

Hi proddef,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Google Nest Community.

I'd like to check if there's a C (common) wire connected to your Nest Thermostat 2020. If none, this is possibly the main reason why we're getting this strange behavior for your other system.

Let us know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Regards,

Ryan

Hey proddef,

I wanted to check in and see if I could be of any help. I found an article with some troubleshooting steps. Please let me know if that helps, as I would be happy to assist, and answer any questions you may have.

Thanks Jake, but I already went through all those troubleshooting steps, I know is not a problem with the AC itself because if I connect the Nest Learning thermostat (intended originally for a different room) it works just fine, the problem is specifically for the Google Nest Thermostat (2020).

Stepping back on the context:

  • I have a thermostat per room where a split system is installed (8 total)
  • some of my rooms already have Learning Thermostats and those work just fine
  • the problem appears once I connect the Google Nest Thermostat (2020) to the wiring
  • cooling starts, the room reaches the desired temperature and then continue cooling
  • if I disconnect the yellow (cooling) wire from the thermostat and only use the heating functionality the system behaves as expected (reaches a desired temperature and then shuts off completely).

I hope the added context helps to understand better a resolution path. Let me know if photos of the wirings may help (I can send them for the Learning and Google Nest thermostats if needed for comparison purposes).
