Hey everyone,
I’ve been using Nest for a while, and there is a huge missed opportunity for those of us with multi-story homes.
The Problem: Physics vs. The Algorithm
Heat rises and Cool air sinks. Right now, my Nests act like they don't know they are in the same home.
If my lower zone is blasting heat, that warm air drifts upwards. But my upper Nest ignores this reality and runs its own heating cycle simultaneously.
The result? The upper floors roast and overshoot the target temp by 3-4 degrees. It’s a huge waste of energy.
The Feature Request: "Vertical Learning"
Since this is a "Learning Thermostat," it should learn my home’s vertical airflow.
Nest notices: "Every time the lower floor runs heat for 45 mins, the upper floor warms up by 2 degrees on its own."
Nest acts: "Okay, next time the lower floor runs, I'll delay the upper floor heat because I know free warmth is coming."
