Eco mode uses safety temps only

I have a Learning Thermostat using Home/Away and Eco Temps when away. I have Eco Temps set above/below the defaults. When I’m away and the system switches to Away mode, the app tells me the system is using Eco Temps. However, the temperature in the house rises well above the max or drops well below the minimum. It looks like the system is only observing safety temps or the default Eco Temps and not the Eco Temps I have set. The system switches into Home mode when I return and heats/cools as expected but it runs a while (too long) to reach the scheduled temp. Anybody else have this happen and found a solution? I don’t want to turn off safety temps.

Hi NestTherm2807,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • When did the issue start?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward

This thermostat was already installed in my house when I bought it so all I know about it is what the technical info says in the app. It is a Learning Thermostat model 3.6 running software 6.2-27 according to the technical info. I am the only person with a phone communicating with the thermostat and no one else shares access in the app. I live alone with a crated pet so there’s no activity being detected inside the house.

I noticed the house exceeding the set max temp when Away over the summer when outdoor temperatures were very high (near/over 100). I was only gone for the day not vacation of anything. Activity history showed the system did not come on while in Away mode to cool or maintain the max temp. Lately, when outdoor temps were very cold (low 20s/teens) I came home and the indoor temp was below the minimum set temp for Away mode. Activity history showed the system did not come on while away to heat or maintain the minimum temp.
I have tried setting min/max temps in Eco mode again. I have tried taking the thermostat out/in Eco mode. I’ve turned the system off when temps were mild enough then back on. I’ve re-set all the Home/Away settings. The wi-if has been reset.
It’s difficult to test since outdoor temps would have to allow the house to heat/cool to extreme temps. And it takes hours. It’s very frustrating not knowing if the settings are going to work.

I have not had a chance to fill out the form. It seems to want the same information I've already provided, though.

I just submitted the form with the information in my original post. There weren't enough characters for all the info from this thread.
