Expired generation 2 thermostats

I purchased a home several weeks ago that has 3 generation 2 Nest thermostats. Unfortunately, I just learned that post 10/25 many administrative aspects, including remote control, are no longer supported. I also understand that discount codes for replacement devices were also sent out. How can I get the discount code to replace my 3 devices?

Hi ChuckDietrick,

Thank you for posting in the community! I'm glad to address your interest in the discount codes to replace your Nest Learning Thermostats (2nd gen). I understand you are seeking the discount codes previously offered for replacements.

I'm sorry to inform you that the eligibility for those specific replacement discount programs was tied to the original owner's account and required the devices to be actively paired to that account before the specific cutoff date of March 28, 2025.

Because you were not the registered owner at the time, and the devices were not paired to your account during the eligibility period, you are unfortunately not eligible for that specific legacy discount program.

The path for obtaining these discount codes now relies on the original owner of the home. Your options are:

  • Contact the Previous Owner: The discount codes would have been issued to the email address of the person who owned and registered those three thermostats. If you have a possibility to contact the last owner, you will need to ask them to check their email for any communication or discount codes they received from Google regarding the Gen 2 thermostat replacement.
  • Purchase New Devices: If you cannot obtain the codes from the previous owner, the most reliable path to regaining smart control and supported remote access is to purchase new, current-generation Nest Thermostats (which operate through the Google Home app) and replace the Gen 2 units.

The related article with information about the discount can be found here: End of support for Nest Learning Thermostats (1st and 2nd gen).

I hope this information addresses your concern. For any additional assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards,

Humberto
